For Black History Month 2021, YouTube invited a different Black artist each week to reimagine its logo on the homepage, and mine was the very first Yoodle of the series.
I kept the red play button and swapped the wordmark for a big, bold “BHM”, made to celebrate the voices of Black creativity. The inspiration came from the Black people around me and the beauty of all our different skin tones. The same language also took over YouTube’s channel banner, with a collage of lettering, illustrated stickers and symbols.
Seeing it on the homepage of one of the biggest platforms in the world is still pretty special.
