Redshirts is John Scalzi’s Hugo Award-winning sci-fi comedy about the crew members in red shirts on a starship, the ones who always seem to die on away missions, and who slowly realize something is very, very wrong with their reality.
The book is a love letter and a joke about sci-fi clichés, so the cover is too. The title is huge and heroic, the kind you’d expect on a space adventure, but it’s crawling with tiny red-shirted crew members meeting their fate in every possible way. They’re not the stars of this cover, they’re the punchline, which is exactly the point of the book.
