Novas Frequências is Rio’s festival for experimental music and sound, the kind of lineup where you never really know what you’re about to hear. Its 14th edition took over the city in 2024, with artists from Brazil, France, Canada and the Netherlands, and Lucas Dasc and I got to build the visual world around it.
We wanted the identity to feel like the music: a little unfinished, a little strange, and very hard to ignore. So every artist got rebuilt in low poly, like a character from a forgotten PlayStation game. Blurry textures, sharp edges, faces that are almost there but not quite rendered yet. Slightly cursed, completely hypnotic.
Holding it all together is a grid shaped like a cross, a nod to Christ the Redeemer watching over Rio. It splits every poster into pieces, cuts the faces into fragments and lets the type run along its arms, with even the word “NOVAS” crossing itself in the corners. Then everything got cranked up in loud orange, hot pink, purple, olive and electric lime, colors that feel more like a rave than a museum.
From there, the system grew into a main poster, a lineup poster, one poster for each artist and a full set for social media, every piece a different remix of the same faces.
