For the Los Angeles Times’ Banned Books Club, a series about books still being challenged and pulled from shelves today, I created the logo and a small family of pieces around it.
The lettering had to work at every size, from tiny on an enamel pin to big across a tote bag. So I built it as a badge first: the logo surrounded by an illustration that could live on its own as a sticker or a pin. From there came a spot illustration for social media, the enamel pin design and a full scene for the tote.
Making something people could wear felt right for this one. Reading banned books is kind of a statement, and now it comes with accessories.
